As Children of God, we share the good news and great joy of Jesus for all.
We open our hearts and arms to all people. You are welcome here regardless of your race, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, and abilities. If you’ve been separated from the church in the past we urge you to come and experience God’s love.
Advent Lutheran Church opened its doors in 1928 on the spot where our building now stands. At the time, our congregation was mostly of German descent. Today, we’re more diverse, with people of various ages, faith backgrounds, and races.
We’ve renovated our building to accommodate the needs of our active, expanding congregation. But despite external changes, the heart of Advent remains the same. We long for each person in West Lawn and our larger community to hear the good news of Jesus and be filled with great joy.
Our shared faith is what makes us a community.
Our strength comes from each other and our shared belief in the Trinity and the risen Christ.
Preaching shapes us and sends us into the world to serve.
We make the Scripture understandable and engaging for real humans living in a complex world.
God’s work. Our hands.
Our outreach ministries help those anywhere who are lacking a support system. We do so happily, without judgement and for as long as it takes to make a difference.
Everyone is joyfully welcomed.
God made you and loves you as you are. We are not perfect; we do not expect you to be. We believe that God helped you find us.
Hearts and voices raised in song.
Music connects us to God and to each other. We believe that when you sing, you pray twice!
