Family Promise

Partnering with Family Promise of Berks, Advent hosts families who are without homes. Volunteers provide them with food, shelter, and fellowship for the two weeks they stay with us. This is satisfying work provided to grateful families.

More than 40 million people in the United States are not sure of where to find their next meal. The problem is worldwide. Advent helps with the problem by contributing funds and food to ELCA World Hunger and various local initiatives.

Our congregation provides food items to a local pre-k for 3- and 4-year-old children whose families are below the poverty level.

Hungry Yard Sale

It’s a yard sale with a twist—there are no prices on anything! Shoppers are asked to give generously—all funds go to the ELCA’s World Hunger Program; unsold items are given to a worthy local charity.

Lutheran Disaster Response

It takes a special type of motivation and a big heart to rush into areas hit by disasters such as floods, wildfires, tsunamis, and drought. Lutheran Disaster Response is committed to bringing ongoing assistance to hard-hit communities.

Common Ground Recovery Ministry

Common Ground is a worshipping community based on 12-step spirituality and Lutheran faith. The Recovery Ministry holds weekly meetings at Trinity Lutheran in Reading, Atonement Lutheran in Wyomissing and St. Gabriel’s Episcopal in Douglassville. We support the program by preparing meals and clothing drives.

Social Ministry

Our team leads many creative projects for people in need. We make fleece blankets and health kits to send overseas, collect Christmas gifts for area groups, send greeting cards and goodies to homebound members, and more!

Blessing of the Animals

Come for the sniffing. Stay for the blessing. Bring your favorite four-legged friends to our annual Blessing of the Animals held in early October. Join us for worship, fellowship, a blessing for your pet, and treats to take home! Dogs and cats on leashes or in carriers, and caged pets are all welcome.

Little Free Library & Free Little Food Pantry

A library and food pantry made by our confirmation students is open for business on the Noble Street side of the church under a bring-a-book or take-a-book system. Books for both adults and children are available. A variety of non-perishable foods are available for anyone in need to take.

Crop Hunger Walk

The CROP Hunger Walk takes place annually in October with the mission of fighting hunger. You can help by joining our team of walkers, or by sponsoring our team with your donation. Funds raised support international hunger relief and the Helping Harvest Food Bank in Berks County.

Wilson Food Pantry

Advent serves as a donation, collection, and delivery point for the Wilson Food Pantry. This charity provides food for those who struggle to keep their own pantry full. Our congregation collects and delivers soups, canned meats, canned fruits and vegetables, and shelf-stable items to help families in need.
